14 years ago was the club Milton Keynes Dons from FC Wimbledon. Fans of the FC then founded the AFC Wimbledon – and started at the bottom. Six risers later, the AFC suddenly stands before its rival.
The English football club AFC Wimbledon stands for the first time in its history before Milton Keynes Dons. This is a particular success for the League One team, and the British newspaper The Guardian even speaks of a “historic milestone”. The club was founded only 14 years ago by fans of FC Wimbledon. From this club, Milton Keynes Dons became 2002, after the club tip decided to move to Milton Keynes about 100 kilometers away.
The newly established AFC had to start a new start in the regional league Combined Counties League. This was achieved with great success: six climbs followed. It was only last May that the club secured the leap into the League One, the third-highest English game class, on the playoffs.
There the AFC is after twelve days of play table tenter – and thus for the first time before its rival MK Dons. With a 3-1 success at Oxford and a simultaneous defeat by Milton Keynes (0-1 against Port Vale), the club overtook the rivals in the table.
This success is celebrated in the English press. “They are now better than Milton Keynes Dons” writes “Foxsports”. Even the film studios have attracted the attention of the club. Lastly, the film producer and long-time fan of the club John Green announced the filming of the club’s history.
